Meet The Team

Lucy Craft

Director, co-producer, and writer Lucy Craft has reported from Tokyo since 1982. As a producer and correspondent for CBS News, she won an Emmy and received two nominations. This film has its roots in Lucy’s efforts more than a decade ago to tell the story of Japanese war brides. She invited Karen Kasmauski and Kathryn Tolbert to join her in creating a film. The result was Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight, a mother-daughter story about their three families. But Lucy always wanted to do a longer, deeper film that placed this unique migration in broader historical context, and include a wider variety of families. The three women created the non-profit The War Bride Experience to oversee a multi-media project that includes film, oral history, education material, and traveling exhibition.
